Link to GoodreadsBlurb: Being an unwanted twin in the imperial line of succession, Farilane becomes a scholar, an adventurer, and—in a time when reading is forbidden—a hunter of books. Her singular obsession is finding the mythical Book of Brin, a tome not just lost but intentionally buried. Although she is respected and beloved by the Teshlor Knights, not even their legendary skills can protect her, for what she finds is more dangerous than what she sought.
Review: A well told story. It's a difficult line to tow, where the main character is a genius that doesn't mind rubbing it in, as it often leads to the character being obnoxious. Thankfully, Farilane juggles this perfectly, and it adds to my liking of the main character. The clear belief in doing right throughout this book made it a happy read for me, despite the many sad, even tragic events. I found some of the side characters fairly one-dimensional, but this didn't detract from my enjoyment given the length of the book and how well those characters were incorporated into the story telling. I also will stress again how much I appreciate the format of this series, and think it's a great way to give the author a lot of freedom while still being able to carry over concepts between books This is a solid recommend from me!
