Blurb: (From Book 1) The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It's the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities.
The Green Bone clans of honorable jade-wearing warriors once protected the island from foreign invasion--but nowadays, in a bustling post-war metropolis full of fast cars and foreign money, Green Bone families like the Kauls are primarily involved in commerce, construction, and the everyday upkeep of the districts under their protection.
When the simmering tension between the Kauls and their greatest rivals erupts into open violence in the streets, the outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself
Review: My boy Hilo! (A friend has convinced me that Hilo is maybe not my boy) This is a super enjoyable series, and the Asian-style modern era just fits perfectly with the mob type setting. The magic system based around Jade and the effects this has on culture and society is genuinely dope. I just finished the 2nd book and this series has actually gotten better. The gradual expansion of the setting and it's influence on Kekon wasn't staggered, slow, abrupt, or forced; it was simply good. Huge recommend, and if it wasn't for Kings of the Wyld then Jade City would've been the best book of its respective year.
Edit: I have now read the third book. I adored the pacing, and the way it closed out the series. Am a huge advocate of this series, and it's a massive recommend irrespective of how green you are.
