Book 1: The Name Of The Wind
Book 2: The Wise Man's Fear
Blurb: (From Book 1) Told in Kvothe's own voice, this is the tale of the magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen.
The intimate narrative of his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-ridden city, his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, and his life as a fugitive after the murder of a king form a gripping coming-of-age story unrivaled in recent literature.
A high-action story written with a poet's hand, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that will transport readers into the body and mind of a wizard.
Review: This book is the gold standard of fantasy. When recommending fantasy books to a friend, without fail, this features near the top of the list irrespective of their interests and personalities. P. Rothfuss has an absolute gift in writing, and for me this is one of the series where you truly notice and appreciate it. The main character, Kvothe, is so well fleshed out, and this is continued with all side-characters who aren't remotely one-dimensional. The setting of this book is also amazing, with unique cities and a beautiful magic system to top it all off. I simply genuinely believe that this series will go down in history as the 'best' fantasy series of all time provided the ever-delayed third book is of the same standard. So, if you're reading and you haven't read the series yet, I can at a minimum guarantee that you'll greatly enjoy it.
