Blurb: (From Book 1) The Age of Kings is dead . . . and I have killed it.

It's a bloody business overthrowing a king...
Field Marshal Tamas' coup against his king sent corrupt aristocrats to the guillotine and brought bread to the starving. But it also provoked war with the Nine Nations, internal attacks by royalist fanatics, and the greedy to scramble for money and power by Tamas's supposed allies: the Church, workers unions, and mercenary forces.

Stretched to his limit, Tamas is relying heavily on his few remaining powder mages, including the embittered Taniel, a brilliant marksman who also happens to be his estranged son, and Adamat, a retired police inspector whose loyalty is being tested by blackmail.

But when gods are involved...
Now, as attacks batter them from within and without, the credulous are whispering about omens of death and destruction. Just old peasant legends about the gods waking to walk the earth. No modern educated man believes that sort of thing. But they should...

Review: So if you're looking for a fantasy book, and your search contained 'gun', then you've probably seen the title of this. The series didn't stick with me too much though and it's been a fair while since I read it, so take this review with a pretty hefty grain of salt.

Off memory, it's essentially a military style fantasy that escalates the scope of the story ten-fold over the series. I remember still enjoying the plot despite this, even though I think it got a bit ridiculous. Taniel, the main character, is pretty memorable too, but I'm struggling to remember any others that I'm comfortable commenting on without risking a potential spoiler. All in all, I'm left with an incredibly faded positive memory, where it's not good enough for me to go back and re-read. So it's not a big recommend from me, but arguably should be a recommend. It's going in the not pile however, but it's right near the cusp of recommend and this review shouldn't be trusted overly much.
