Book 1: A Memory Called Empire

Book 2: A Desolation Called Peace

Blurb: (From Book 1) Ambassador Mahit Dzmare arrives in the center of the multi-system Teixcalaanli Empire only to discover that her predecessor, the previous ambassador from their small but fiercely independent mining Station, has died. But no one will admit that his death wasn't an accident—or that Mahit might be next to die, during a time of political instability in the highest echelons of the imperial court.

Now, Mahit must discover who is behind the murder, rescue herself, and save her Station from Teixcalaan's unceasing expansion—all while navigating an alien culture that is all too seductive, engaging in intrigues of her own, and hiding a deadly technological secret—one that might spell the end of her Station and her way of life—or rescue it from annihilation.

Review: So beautifully written. This is one of the truly rare examples where story, writing style, and pace fit seamlessly. The ending of book two has also left me completely satisfied, although I would be wildly happy if there's a third installment. The biggest credit aside from the writing that I give this story, is that it is a great example of how alien different societies in sci-fi / fantasy can be without requiring racial changes. It was a delight to read about the Jewel of the World and its culture. My heart goes out to Dzmare, may she find what she wants. I cannot recommend this series enough if you're interested in sci-fi, and think its a great entry point if otherwise.
